Summer 2017 – Grand Finals

Congratulations to all teams this summer. Some impressive improvements & great team work really coming thru.  While it would be great to share all your stories we thought we would take a moment to congratulate those who were lucky enough to play & win in the grand final.  We understand that winning is not everything, it is about the effort & the spirit in which the game is played that counts.  But every now & then it is nice to have a humble brag & let these guys enjoy there victories! Go Lara!

Under 14-3 Lara Titans

Coach:  Jason Wilson

The boys finished on top of their ladder winning 14 out of 17 games.  In the semi final they defeated YMCA Beavers 42-31 to book a spot in the Grand Final against YMCA Cougars. The boys flew out of the blocks & had an impressive lead at half time 19 to 9.  YMCA regrouped & worked hard in the second half to reduce the gap & give the boys a little scare, however they were to strong & hung on for a solid 43 to 36 win.

Under 14-4 Lara Giants

Coach: Phil Robertson

Finishing 3rd on the ladder in an extremely tight contest with the top 3 teams all equal on points the guys knew they had to lift for the finals.  First up they took on Try Boys who they easily accounted for winning 20-8.  This set up a Lara showdown with the Lara Kings who knocked off the top team to book their spot.  In a great contest the Giants were to strong on the night winning 31-17.  Well done to both teams, great effort

Under 14-3 Lara Stars

Coach:  Dave Van Der Hoeven

Finishing second on the ladder thegirls met YMCA in the first final winning 26-19.  The Lara girls played the minor premiers Pivot in the Grand final.  This proved to be an extremely tight contest with the score almost even 22-21 with under 4 minutes left.  From here, the girls worked hard on defence & kept pivot scoreless, while Mollie was able to get free & score the last 6 points allowing Lara to win 28-21.

Under 14-2 Lara Giants

Coach:  Mel Barter

Finishing top of the div 2 ladder the girls were finding form at the right time of the season.  The girls easily accounted for Dolpins Magic in the first final & faced a match up against 3rd placed YMCA in the grand final was going to be a good game, and the game was set up for an epic finish with the scores 21 all early in the second half.  Coach Mel fired up the girls & then they went on a rampage easily winning the second half & winning the game 40-24.  A great spread of scorers showed the depth & team work displayed by only the best teams.

Under 16-2 Lara Giants

Coach:  Rod Randall

The giants had almost a perfect season dropping one game for the entire season, perhaps a good reality check the boys needed as they claimed top spot.  However sharks weren’t far away only losing 2 games in second.  In the semi the boys made short work of YMCA with a comfy 66-40 win, which set up a Lara v Sharks final.  The final was an epic battle with the lead changing several times in the first half with the sharks just ahead 17-19 during the break. The shark then got on a mini run as the lead blew out to 8 points when the Giants knew it was now time to lift.  They reduced the gap to 5 points but struggled to get any closer, until the boys work rate lifted again.  Zane nailed a 3 pointer followed by Noah converting 3 point play, with the difference now just 1 point with 3 minutes to play.  The sharks felt the pressure & lacked the discipline to finish the game with fouls & tech foul, allowing the giants to smell victory.  The boys went on to claim an impressive 47-43 win.

Under 16-3 Lara Titans

Coach:  Brett Boneham

The Lara Titans finished second on the ladder, one spot ahead of the Lara Lakers which set us up for an awesome semi final.  This game didn’t disappoint with only 4 points separating the two teams.  Meanwhile on the other side Rovers upset top of the ladder rivals YMCA, setting up a Lara v Rovers final.  The first half of the grand final was very even with Lara having a little lead, before being pulled back within range, the half time score was 23-20 Lara’s way.  The second half defensive pressure increased & the boys were able to keep Rovers scoreless for the first 8 minutes of the half while adding only 4 points themselves.  The Titans continued to work hard & maintained the upper hand keeping Rovers to just 6 points for the half to run out the stronger team winning 34-26.
